Way OT: wood vs synthetic decking for a backyard deck

Live in Northern California. Redwood is really expensive right now. Even some of the nicest synthetic is cheaper.

Anyone have a deck built in the last few years have an opinion on wood vs synthetic? Everyone I ask absolutely hates either redwood or synthetic. :)
