Only in SoCal.
JJ (a neighbor/friend) recently introduced my wife to Jeremy Meeks, the so-called "Hot Felon" who is now a model. Jeremy is moving into our neighborhood and is staying with JJ until he closes on his new house. The other day, my wife and a girlfriend of hers ran into the two of them having lunch at a local place, joined them, and evidently all of them had a nice time together. Note - A photo is available on TMZ.com, if anyone's interested (my wife is the blonde whose face is obscured by her friend's arm).
A few years ago, Jeremy was convicted of gang related firearm charges and grand theft. The police posted his mug shot, it went viral, and he ended up with a modeling contract. Note that he has two tear drops tattooed under one eye, which - I am told- is a prison/gang symbol that may mean one of many things, none of them good, all of them violent.
We entertain a fair bit at home and my wife mentioned that she wants to include Jeremy and JJ at our next diner party. I didn't think twice, but another friend was pretty adamant in arguing that it's not a good idea to have this guy in our home (or around our 12 year old daughter). On one hand, you want to send a message to your kid about second chances, on the other, virtually everything I know about the guy isn't good.
I should point out that, at the moment, he's probably making a ton of money, so I'm not really worried that he's going to come over to my house and case the joint. Putting aside all the adultery jokes for a moment, would you hesitate to have Jeremy in your home?
