Looking for advice from my Fort friends. So I've worked 47 years in public safety and I'm retiring Nov 9th this year. I've had one disciple in 1974 where I overslept for a court trial.
My issue, I contracted for a HR review from an independent company before I left. I offered all employees an opportunity to come in and give a confidential opinion of their feelings on how they felt about the operation (My biggest mistake maybe). 14 of 70 employees volunteered to give their opinion.
What happened and maybe I should have expected as much, there were three opinions that I had sexually harassed employees. As I swear on my Mothers grave, all complaints are unfounded. I showed my wife the review as she would surely find out. She was upset but said that she can't imagine I did what I've been accused of. I think by reading the complaints, all came from three disgruntled employees.
One was from an employee that was putting un a Christmas tree and I walked by and said "nice" in what she felt was a sexual sort of way. The other two were I called an employee and said "Your boyfriend called" She asked who's that and I supposedly said Hairy Balls. All calls are recorded and that can be easily unsubstantiated. The last said that whenever she walked into my office I looked directly at their breasts and made her feel uncomfortable.
I don't know where any of this came from but I hate for my legacy to be what some are accusing me of. Question, what would you do? I told my attorney that he should suspend me with pay, asked that he request a full investigation. Should I contact an attorney? If so does anyone have any suggestions in the Mid-Michigan area. The HR person is to give a full report to my Board but I requested that they do so after the investigation, she may not wait
Probably sounds lame to some but this is really bothering me, guys/gals I'm at a loss. This came really unsuspected. What would you do?
