Was Jim's coaching pipeline already dry when he chose Gattis ?

I am not sure Gattis is the poor coach so many here make him out to be. but..I haven't looked into it that closely. Look at the offensive minds Bama brought in, OSU had on staff...etc...
BUT..
When it was obvious Jim's offense from the yesteryear was not going to work , did he have plenty of coaches to choose from ? ...OR....was it out already that Jim and Michigan was not the situation a good young coach wanted to be in ?
Was Gattis that highly thought of ? Is it true Jim made a hasty decision ..and was that because he had limited options..
BOTTOMLINE: If Jim had a hard time attracting a good O. C. a couple years ago, who would want to jump on Jim's sinking ship now ? We keep seeing that maybe Jim should stay but should replace this coach and that coach. If his options have dwindled , where is he going to get these great coaches from.
Jim's stubborn weirdness and now losing program don't appear to be big drawing cards.
