For Members of The Fort headed out.. I wanted to use this thread to give a few suggestions on what to see/eat and do while in Utah. If you have anything you wish to ask, please don't hesitate and I will field as many questions as I can today.
The game will stand on it's own and will be epic.. if you are arriving the night before or in the morning.. here are a few places to eat. All but one are within about 2 miles of Rice Eccles stadium (except for Park City hot spots)
EATS
Valters - Great Italian fare coupled with amazing ambience and even a crazy Italian owner/master chef who wanders around and greets each guest. Downtown and easy access.
Sapa Sushi - Really cool environment with Pagodas shipped in from Indonesia. Good sushi, good prices for what you get especially if they have the outdoor patio open .
Lucky 13 - You just want a burger. The best is Lucky 13. Order "The Stinky" you won't be disappointed. It is a Bar, so remember to bring your idea and get ready for a massive burger.
The Red Iguana - This has been seen on Diners drive ins and dives and is a local favorite for Mexican. Expect a line and also really great Mole's. (Honestly have never been there.. which is weird??)
El Chihuahua - roughly 3 miles south of all the other locations I have mentioned.. but If you are a fan of great drinks and decent Mexican food.. but GREAT DRINKS (order the death star.. but only 1) this place is worth going to. Good prices, great staff and odds are good I will be there on Wednesday night.
(did I mention the drinks? hey..it is Utah... that is hard to find.)
The Mellow Mushroom - great pizza able to accommodate larger parties and has such an eclectic menu it is fun for everyone and also has creative drinks as well.
The Pie Pizzeria - The longtime established BEST pizza in Utah.
The Original Pancake House - solid breakfasts but stick to either a the omelettes, crepes, pancakes or if you want to REALY indulge order a "Dutch Baby" be sure to share the dutch baby or else you will have a "Mr. Creosote" Moment.
Spencers - Want a great steak while in Salt Lake.. well.. I would say you had best go to Spencers it is a great little steakhouse without it being too over the top. Flemings also gets honorable mention with everything a la carte.
Squatters Pub and Brewery - World renowned home of Squatters Brew pub, great place to relax have a pint and just enjoy everything that is beer with great food.
Moochies - great sandwiches (not M&B or Zingermans good) mostly known for their Meatball and Philly sandwiches, Moochies has become a local favorite.
Groves Deli - If you are on a low carb diet.. please for the love of god don't go to Groves. This sandwich take 2 (or 3) to eat.. but they are always worth going to when you wanna have a memorable sandwich
Nightclubs
Gracies - TV's, good food, multiple different options for atmosphere. Outdoor patio dining, inside bar area, great Moscow mules.
Bar X - Upscale, hipster but with amazing drinks and vibe good for about an hour or so then move to the next place..
The Bayou - Unique Louisiana themed environment and food. Poll tables and usually has a decent amount of people.
The Green Pig - More relaxed atmosphere, great servers and very "Local" when it comes to Utah. It is a spin off establishment to a legendary Utah Bar.
Park City Restaurants and activities
Grappa - VERY upscale Italian fare by Master Chef Bill White He also owns Chimayo and Wahso. All of which have their very own unique style and flair
The Glitertind at Stein Erikksen Lodge in Deer Valley - The best restaurant and resort in Utah. For Dinner or Brunch or even a spa treatment pure luxury.
Resorts West is a great place to book a beautiful home or lodge or cabin if you are coming out for the game and want to stay away from Salt Lake city. I use them myself for special "getaways"
Park City Ski Resorts is a great place to go on the weekend and relax and play. If you have your family coming and kids.. take a day and ride the Alpine slide and Alpine coaster. Alpine slide is also found at Snowbird ski resort as well.
There a re a ton of things to do while you are here.. concerts, mountain biking trails red butte garden strolls and so much more.. feel free to hit me up if there is something you are thinking you want to do while you are out here. Other locals feel free to chime in with some of your favorites..
and as always.. Go Blue.
