I am getting so tired of the Urban and Harbaugh comparisons. Calling for his job or being “embarrassed” because we got beat badly on Saturday.
Some thoughts/perspective:
I think Urban is a great coach. But he came into a program where in the previous 9 seasons under Tressel they AVERAGED 11 wins a season (1.8 SD), had finished in the top ten 6 times, and won a national championship. All under 1 coach.
Harbaugh inherited a 5-7 team that had averaged just over 7 wins in the previous 9 seasons (2.7 SD) with 3 different coaches and finished inside the top ten 1 time. OSU had just won another national title the year before he took over.
That level of turnover as a staff and recruits that have never known a time when OSU wasn’t elite and Michigan wasn’t is comparing apples to oranges. Harbaugh is a great coach and I still expect that we will eventually compete for B1G championships regularly, but I think being “embarrassed” when it hasn’t happened in year 4, is a little unfair.
