As most of us have seen, there's been a bit of conversation regarding "what's wrong at OSU?" and folks speculating this may be his last year. I suspect how they finish the year will impact that decision since OSU cares primarily, or maybe solely, about winning. That said, he sure seems "off" so maybe he'll self-select to leave.
It got me thinking about his contract and the buyout. The short answer is that his new contract has a buyout, assuming he's not fired for cause, that will be $29.6MM on 2/1/19 and it drops annually after that.
Here's a link to his new contract ttps://www.scribd.com/document/375647543/Urban-Meyer-s-New-Contract#from_embed?campaign=SkimbitLtd&ad_group=66960X1516590X216619dc3ddd4a9408c1856566ebd7a5&keyword=660149026&source=hp_affiliate&medium=affiliate
Of course, it's an amendment of the prior one so, if you're bored or a lawyer...or both...here's the contract that ended in early 2018 https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/4630569-Ohio-State-coach-Urban-Meyer-contract.html
Seems to me that if they were going to fire him "for cause", they would have done it after the investigation earlier this year. If he is leaving, it appears it will be a negotiated event where his payment will likely be in the $20-30 million range.
So...the key is for us to run the table....beat them in Columbus and make it easy for them to part company!
