I first off want to THANK everyone who donated to the Go Fund Me Page for the Hunt Family here in Hillman , who sadly lost their 7 year old son Daniel , along with ALL the thoughts and prayers as well . The parents are young kids as well ( mid 20's ) who were just devastated, and are trying to pick up the pieces , along with their 5 year old daughter . I also want to THANK The WOLVERINE Staff for their help , and pinning my letter to the Board to give it the exposure that drove the total to 22,325 dollars . Here is where we are at now , and yes it's a long slow process :
There is now an account set up at Chemical Bank in Hillman for the family. The money will be moved from the Go Fund Me account to Chemical . The family will NOT have access to the account themselves , ( they thought this was a good idea ) . Along with the dollars from your donations , other dollars were raised ( around 5,000 ) and there will be a dinner here in Hillman , along with a benefit
drive at the VJ Day Celebration here in Hillman on August 12th . A board to oversee the money has been set up , consisting of the parents uncle , and 3 other Hillman area residents . All disbursements will go through them . One is my brother a retired Merrill Lynch broker , and another is a real estate developer , who is retired from Bay City , the other is a retired state employee who is an MSU Alumni who we don't need to talk about !
This group is trying to decide how to get a permanent residence for the family here in Hillman. As I mentioned earlier last week , Habitat for Humanity has been contacted , but there has not been a response yet . The board is also looking at buying a small home here in Hillman as a possibility .
My sense is that once the final fundraisers have taken place , the board will look at the available dollars and decide whether building a small house or buying an existing one is more feasible. The family is also just overwhelmed with the donations of clothes as well as other items that have been donated . I want to again say that ALL the money is still at GoFundMe and will be hopefully moved to the bank this week .
I wish I could say this is moving along quickly , but it's not . We are trying to get the housing situation
taken care of as they are living in someone else's house trailer . I leave to go back to Annapolis in 2 weeks . I promise to keep you all updated ( and yes the updates will be shorter ) and we hope to meet as a group late this week . I will let you know next week of progress , if I have anything meaningful.
Thanks Again and
GO BLUE !
