Positive:
This was as vanilla of an offensive gameplay as they could muster. I honestly think they were trying to put the OL in difficult situations at times. That can’t be a coincidence.
Won by 25. At the end of the day, no one will ever remember this game as remotely memorable at year end. Kinda as it should have been.
Negative:
The number of first downs and sustained drives we gave up was almost maddening. I don’t know the exact numbers but we barely possessed the ball in the second half. Seeing a bad SMU team make play after play on their way to very long drives, aided by several bad penalties, can’t help but shake your confidence in this D. This was not a good offense we played today. Where were the defensive playmakers today? Hill, Gary, Bush, Metellus, etc. just a lot of guys that aren’t making plays when there are plays to be made.
The play calling was seemingly purposefully targeted to the conservative side, but where was the push on the oline? Particularly on key 3rd and 4th and shorts.
Sorry one more - Penalties - refs sucked. But 130 yards of penalties is ridiculous.
