Will be trying an adjusted schedule for the Good Afternoon, Michigan Football pod. Starting this week i'll have the V-Cast & pod available Monday, Wednesday & Friday.
So, no pod today, but I do have some Michigan football thoughts.
#1. This years non conference schedule looks easy but probably won't be as lopsided as a year ago. UM powered through their non conference games in '22 blasting Colorado State, Hawaii & Connecticut by a combined score of 166 to 17. Michigan was up 103-0 in the first half against those teams. JJ McCarthy didn't start last year until game two of the season and was 30-34 for 473 yards passing with 3 TD' & 0 INT's in the first three games. He also ran seven times for 73 yards and a TD. E. Carolina, UNLV & Bowling Green has a similar type feel but with BG having a few UM connections on the staff Harbaugh may take it easy when the Falcons visit September 16th.
#2. Penn State has some serious top end talent. Was just looking at an early '24 mock draft and the Nittany Lions have three top ten picks in left tackle Olu Fashanu, DE Chop Robinson & CB Kalen King. PSU also has a pair of top backs (even though they ran for a combined 35 yards last year vs UM) in Nicholas Singleton & Kaytron Allen.
#3. The last three games for UM will be their three toughest games. November 11th at Penn State, the following week at Maryland and then UM/OSU in Ann Arbor on the 25th two days after Thanksgiving. This season will also be the last year with a four team playoff, a 14-team Big Ten and probably the last go around for a Big Ten East & West division.
