I just looked up Mckeons stats for the year. In 12 games he caught 14 balls or a little over 1 per game. Gentry obviously was more productive and Eubanks had some big plays though he played less. My concern is they are not good enough to handle the major aspects of TE’s duties. In order to keep TE’s in today’s game they need to be dual threats. They need to be able to block well in addition to being a receiving threat, let alone one who can threaten the seams deep.
Throughout most of the year they were just okay at blocking in both the run and pass game. If they were better blockers it would make our run game more consistent and would improve other aspects of the offense such as play action and RPO’s. Basically we didn’t have a complete TE this year who could handle all of the duties.
So for next year either they have to improve their blocking significantly or there is simply no reasons to play 2 TE’s at the expense of a Black, Collins or DPJ being out there. Our trio of WRs have made big plays down field and deserve the snaps over the TEs.
