Thoughts on the game and team . . .

- I understand that from a talent/experience perspective, we're not a playoff or national championship contender. But something is definitely wrong from a coaching perspective IMO. I see a total lack of identity on offense, a lack of creativity, tons of mistakes, and a lack of fundamentals. PSU is a good team but I wasn't blown away by the athletes they had on the field last night . . . rather, they simply looked like a more prepared and better coached team than us.

- For all the criticism of our offense, I actually thought our passing game looked better last night . . . but we're not an offense that is going to be good playing from behind . . . and that is what happened. Our defense really let us job . . . both out of the gate and then allowing that last 2nd quarter TD after we cut it to 1.

- I like that we've brought speed onto the team . . . but we look undersized at many positions. Our D line is skilled but Hurst is relatively small for a nose tackle, Winovich is almost a hybrid defensive end/linebacker, and Gary (while athletic) looks somewhat skinny. Mone is a big boy but is overweight and therefore relatively ineffective. Our strongest linebacker (McCray) can't run and Hudson and Bush are basically safeties playing linebacker. On offense, our O-line needs to get much stronger. Owenu is strong but Kugler is not strong at center, Cole is a undersized tackle and Bredeson has average size/strength. We simply do not have the strength to run a pro style offense/power running game. I don't understand why we keep throwing Bushell-Beatty and Ulizio in at tackle. If nothing else, why don't we try JBB at guard and move Bredeson to tackle? Similarly, guys like DPJ, McKeon and Gentry need to get stronger.

- Given my last point, the nature of PSU's offense, and they're attacking of McCray and our safeties, I wonder why Brown didn't play more corners. We should have had 3 corners in the game at all times and probably pulled McCray. He really got schooled by Moorehead in this game.

- We need someone more athletic than Perry at wide receiver - he misses way to many throws because of his lack of length, speed and athleticism.

- On a positive note, Ambry Thomas showed a burst last night - he looks like an excellent athletic. And Crawford made a nice catch. I truly believe that PSU wasn't trotting out any receiver last night more athletic than Crawford - he just needs development.

- O'Korn was not on the top of our list of problems last night. I thought he gave 100% and made some plays with his arm and his feet. But O'Korn just doesn't seem to be a guy who can make quick and good decisions in the passing game - perhaps just the way he is or perhaps its coaching. I don't know.

- We're paying our coaching staff over $10 million/year. They are not living up to their contracts. With his quote last night, I hope Harbaugh is trying to motivate his team and not attacking his fan base . . . because when you make the type of money he does, you better learn to deal with the criticism when your team goes on the road and gets trucked.
