Thoughts On Rudock (nothing earth shattering)

As we all know Rudock is very close to becoming a Wolverine. I've looked at the every pass video from mgovideo that was posted within Chris' article (as I'm sure most of you have) and I'm not impressed. BUT I do remain open.

There aren't any negatives with Rudock entering the fold. If anything for the ability to possibly redshirt Malzone or Gentry (or both) is a win in my book. This gives the program another competitive body, who is willing to prove himself. That's never a bad thing. If he gets beaten out by Morris or Speight, fantastic. It means someone has won the job.

I'm sure Rudock is aware of the stigma that comes with his name: He lost the job at Iowa. He's not impressive. He underwhelms. He's not this or he's not that. A lot of people wrote off a QB who had a stigma to himself as well in Brian Griese in '97. Was Griese electric? No. Could he move the offense? Yes. Griese was (my opinion) a game manager, and helped the offense improve all year, and won a lot of tough games by keeping the defense fresh. I view Rudock in the same light. He has a bunch of people to prove wrong including 117,000 every Saturday, but he has one guy (himself) to prove right.

If he can control the offense, and limit mistakes, it's an instant improvement. This team doesn't need electric, or that "wow" guy. This team needs a kid that work within the system, and make the system go. It needs an effective manager. If that's Rudock for a year, and he helps Michigan compete, it's a win by any definition.
