pick who didn't live up to his billing/hype? Not saying UM would be a great program but if this one player did live up to the hype would have made UM a better program.

Any ONE player. Factor in the style of play of the regime. Assume this player could overcome coaching. Assume no politics/entitlement.

This is a tough call between Green, Gardner and Morris. Maybe even Kalis.

I am going with Morris because he would have opened up the passing game and then pushed back to wr in 2013.

Thoughts?

Could you imagine just how bad this team would have been with Morris at QB and Hoke as coach?

Seriously RM - you are completely clueless - how can you put Gardner in there? The kid did everything that was asked of him. 2 HCs, 3 OCs, 2 positions being asked to flip flop twice, 3 different systems, completely different systems. He is one of my favorite UM players - he never complained, never whined, just gave it his best. He won single games for us based on individual effort (Indiana, almost OSU, ND, etc). You really know absolutely nothing about football.

Green, Ty and Morris are the folks on this list that belong there. Kalis has started 3 years so he is better then anybody else we have had so you can not really put him there. Your scenarios are really dumb btw.

Oh an before you start quoting random bloggers who you follow let me share some actual stats with you:
  1. Gardner was a 4-star out of HS, not a 5-star like Morris, Kalis, Green, & Ty.
  2. Look at this all-time stats for Michigan football
Yep Gardner is pretty terrible - no question there he's just Top 3-4 for every category. He won more games as a starter then Denard. He played for arguable the worst coach in Michigan history. He played with no offensive talent - none of his players are playing in the NFL...Toussant did briefly did and Lewan is starting, and that is it! Robinson actually played with 8 kids that are playing in the NFL right now. He was coached by the 2 worst OCs and was under the regime of the worst AD of all time. Yet, that kid was overrated despite being in the Top of every category as a 2 year starter. Yep, he was terrible. If Golson was our QB we would have 2 NC, and Golson would have thrown for 100 TDs and become a 2-time Heisman winner. No doubt in my mind.

No doubt Derrick Green. 5 star BUT my only fear when he signed is that he played his prep football out of Virginia which is not very good for prep football. If you look at all of the national college football programs that are good each year then they usually have a strong high school football. OR they reside next to a state that produces an ungodly amount of talent like Michigan drawing from Ohio, Oklahoma and Oky State drawing from Texas, all Pac 12 teams drawing from California. It matters when you play against good competition. For example, Florida produces an excessive amount of talent for the entire nation. Those players typically produce for their programs like Derrick Henry (Alabama) out of Yulee, Florida. These kids play their entire careers against top talent and that is why they produce at the next level. Look at Bosa, even Rudock out of Florida and O'Korn as well. This is why the SEC is good year in and year out. Now, many Big 10 programs are scowering the South for talent like Harbaugh did with his camps this past summer. Top states for HS football are usually:

Florida- feeds everyone nationally!!!!!
Texas-feeds everyone especially Oklahoma. Oky State etc.
California-feeds the Pac 12 states including Utah/Arizona schools
Ohio-feeds Michigan and Michigan State-High school football in Michigan generally weak except for Detroit schools and some others like Farmington Harrison or private schools.
Georgia- feeds the Carolinas and Tennessee
Louisiana-feeds Alabama and Mississippi, Arkansas
Mississippi-feeds Alabama, Miss and Arkansas
North/South Carolina-feeds Georgia, Tenn and other national schools like Michigan for example. Clemson, USC get the top tier usually.

All the running backs have under performed their hype coming in. There is a real need to upgrade that position. Pick any name including Johnson who cannot stay healthy. Most people said Smith was better than Green and they were right. Ty cannot get out of the doghouse and has been nonexistent in the offense. The two recruits from Indiana are athletes, but will see time at RB even if Peppers moves there full time.

Gardner wasn't very good. Maybe against ND. Once teams figured out to contain him in the pocket...it was over. Still in denial. Yeah..Gardner was so good that is why he was drafted as a wr. Ask MSU or OSU if they would like Gardner playing qb for UM if had more eligibility.

Is Gardner a relative? Please see below for you review. Yeah...he threw for lots of yards. Tell me about his int/td ratio and his win/loss percentage as a qb. Still in denial. Do you want me to go get his int/td ratio?...or just want to show me those yardage statistics against non conference opponents.

Combines and rankingsEdit
After compiling impressive statistics as a junior, Gardner was invited to a number of combines and camps in the Summer of 2009. In June 2009, Gardner participated in the Nike camp in Champaign, Illinois.[10] In July 2009, Gardner participated in the Elite 11 quarterback camp at Soka University in Aliso Viejo, California, as one of the 12 invited quarterbacks.[11] Gardner earned counselor awards for best footwork and work in the classroom at the Elite 11 camp.[10] After watching Gardner perform at the Elite 11, JC Shurburtt wrote for ESPN.com that, "Gardner has also surprised many. His hustle, leadership and athleticism add up to a tremendous maturity that will help him compete early for playing time in Ann Arbor."[11] Barry Every, national analyst for Rivals.com, ranked Gardner as the top overall quarterback at the Elite 11 camp based on long-term potential and the ability to win football games,[10] and added, "He may not be as big or fast as current Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor, but he is a close second."[11]

In September 2009, Gardner was ranked at the top quarterback prospect in the United States by Rivals.com.[5][12] He was ranked as the No. 4 quarterback nationally by Scout.com and the No. 5 quarterback in the ESPNU 150.[1][7] In November 2009, Allen Trieu of Scout.com said of Gardner:

"He is considered one of the top handful of quarterbacks in the country and is firmly entrenched as a five-star prospect. As far as upside goes, I don't see many quarterbacks that have his potential. He has improved as a passer, but I think what is overlooked is that he has gotten faster and has broken longer runs. We've also seen several times where he has put this team on his shoulders and pulled out victories in tough situations."[7]

Check out that td/int ratio for 2014 and get back to me. I can also break it down by conference vs. non-conference if interested.

See I knew you were going to send these random facts. You can't be a Top 10 statistical QB in every category in Michigan's history and be terrible - I don't really give a crap what you say there and there is no blog, no article, no random opinion that will fix that. Name me a QB that went through as much as he did anywhere in college and still put up the numbers he had. Name me a QB in college history that started as a QB, switched to WR, went back to QB due to an emergency injury, had a new OC, then another new OC, and had virtually no NFL talent on their team.

Spend the next 2-3 days researching that since you love to do that stuff. Who on Gardner's radar other then Funchess who is a complete head case, did he have? No RB, no O-line, no WRs...you saying that O-line was his fault? Shit against MSU he barely would have 1 second to get rid of the ball - Tom Brady could not do that if he had to. Yes, when that happens your stats suck. Look at Carr (the Oakland QB) and how terrible he was last year and how much better he is now with a decent O-line. It's the sum of all games. It's not an individual sport as much as you love to make it that. If all the parts are working, a terrible QB can do well (who was that Bama QB that won a NT for them that is doing crap right now). On the flip side, if the sum or all parts are not working, even a great QB will still suck (the current Cal QB has thrown a lot of INTs but will likely be a first round pick, while your man-crush Golson will likely not even get drafted!!!). Gardner flourished after the first 4 games in his first full season as a QB - he lit up the BIG and led in every category in 2013. Then we bring Nuss who was terrible and he regressed. Heck every single player regressed. Jake Ryan regressed for the love of god! The O-line did - there is a reason Hoke was fired and Gardner had nothing to do with it. Your savior Morris came in and played and threw 6 INTs in 20 passes - even he sucked and regressed.

You can hate Gardner all that you want - post a survey on the board and let's see what folks think - you opinion shows me 2 things:

1) You know squat about football
2) You are not really a Michigan football fan - which is pretty apparent from your other posts.
