I'm disappointed in the loss on Saturday. It was awful.
HOWEVER, those saying that the season was a failure or the program is a disgrace or an embarrassment ought to just GTFO of our fan base.
Here's a bit of a reality check:
We're just a few years removed from being 4th or 5th in the Big Ten East. We lost to RUTGERS not long ago. All of a sudden, if in Harbaugh's 4th year, we don't beat a one loss OSU team on the road and an undefeated ND team on the road in the first game of the year, then "we suck," "we're a national embarrassment," and "fire Harbaugh."
HOT TAKES APLENTY!!!
Like it or not, here's where we are ascending checklist style:
1) Consistently beat the teams we should. Check.
2) Beat the better teams on our schedule like Wisconsin and PSU. Check.
3) Beat MSU. Check.
4) Beat our rivals and good teams on the road. MSU yes, 2 in a row. ND no. OSU no. This action is in progress.
5) Beat OSU. Not yet.
6) Win the Big Ten and go to the Playoffs. Will likely happen with step 5.
7) Side task. Continuously upgrade staff and recruiting. Check.
8) Do all the above with integrity and within the rules. Check.
Keep in mind, that we want to "win the right way." That means that when we play OSU, Georgia, Alabama, Clemson and the like, we are playing on a very uneven field.
We greatly exceeded expectations this year. This was a good year. As long as we continue to improve, we'll check off boxes 5 and 6. If you can't stand the ride, then go root for someone else.
