I don't post. Haven't posted in over a decade (other than yesterday). After this, I'll likely go back to not posting again.
That said, there has been a ton of threads and craziness, my suggestion is that everyone should really pump the brakes on all this "things are changing, everybody panic" stuff. (BTW - This is not to be confused with normal curiosity and "do we have details" conversations. Obviously, there's a difference)
Here's your short and likely mildly inaccurate history lesson based on my failing memory. Many of you remember this as well. Before young puppies JB, Balds, babies Spath and shortly thereafter Josh became The Wolverine, there was a whole other crew of people doing this very thing. Tom Beaver left with a couple active posters, BlueSam, Sleepyguy and they joined up with Don Hoekwater who had a similar site, and that became affiliated with the Scout Network, Go Blue Wolverine. Sleepy/Matt didn't hang around for too long, and went off to do his own thing on and off. (Someone feel free to correct me on any of these collective deets) BlueSam became Sam Webb, 50.1% chance, etc., etc.
That said, there was a big whole thing here about it. Did the sky fall? No. Was there a ton of unnecessary internet "drama" and hurt feelings? You bet your sweet bippy. But hey, welcome to the internet. Even moreso, welcome to the internet in 2001.
The wonderful part about being a consumer in 2021 is that you have a ton of options. If/when your favorite writers, content creators, etc., move to new locations, you can easily know and follow them. I'll be honest, when the site "changed" 20 years ago, I don't think I really noticed for a couple months. I remember thinking there's a lot of new people around, but also not really caring or paying attention. Only after the fact did I learn about the "drama". (Silly as it was)
Now, it appears that the people who write for The Wolverine, may be moving their digital chip to another space. For the past 20 years they have done an amazing job of carving out their own unique space for Michigan sports fans. You pay money to read their content, hear their opinions, and you're likely going to want to continue to do that, because of who they are and the quality of work they produce. With apologies to the Rivals infrastructure, I doubt there are very many people here who are paying for "the network." But maybe. And if so, they certainly can keep doing that.
My guess is though making a decision about whether or not to cancel your Rivals sub, is probably a bit premature. The sky isn't falling. It didn't fall 20 years ago. You continue to have the ability to reward content creators you like by compensating them, and you also get to choose not to invest if you care not to. Some/most/all of the questions you have are probably not going to be answered by the current staff. Just take 'er easy.
That said, I bet the transition in 5 weeks will be a lot smoother than it was 20 years ago. I'm sure whoever comes in to fill this gap will likely do a great job, because we're spoiled as Michigan fans to have a bounty of quality media members who are smart do great work, plus a couple bad ones too.
Lastly, while I know the team appreciates everyone's loyalty and will definitely appreciate it on November 1. I'm also pretty positive that they'd prefer you give whoever comes in next a fair 'shake' of it all, so whoever follows in their footsteps doesn't have to deal with some of the nonsense they dealt with 20 years ago.
Now, if anyone knows how to turn on thread view by the way, hit me up. Also, my post count is broken, it says I have 2. I'm positive I had at least 5 between 2001 and 2010. Also, I'm still waiting to be credited for my pre-2001 posts, too. Finally, has anyone ever been to Alaska?
RIP me.
