The puzzling contrast of Duncan Robinson Vs. Nik Stauskas
Yes, I know that some rise and some fall, it happens all the time
If you had told me that these two guys, in similar roles, would have careers that they have had, I would not believe it
Getting off the bus without knowing them, you could never guess which one was the star.
Puzzling
Duncan Robinson is having a better career than my optimistic expectation for Nik Stauskas
Nik Stauskas had a career that was very undistinguished and yet better than I expected Duncan would have.
Furthermore, to even the casual observer, Stauskas is a better overall athlete than Duncan.
Nik Stauskas was steal at the 8th pick in the draft
Nik Stauskas was heralded college player the Big Ten POY, 8th pick in the NBA draft
At Michigan, Nik was a great 3-point shooter 47% of FG and 44% from 3 point shots, 17ppg as a sophomore. He was Second Team All American. A great shooter, flat out a scorer who could also take it to the rim.
After 5 undistinguished years in the NBA, he played in Spain for a year and now is playing for a G-league team in Mississagua Ontario
His NBA career average 6.8 point/game, 38.6 shooting pctg mostly coming off the bench.
Maybe someone will give Duncan Robinson a shot in the NBA??
Duncan Robinson was a good, solid but certainly unheralded college player
Even after his career was finished we speculated if he could get a spot on an NBA team (someone would pick him up right?)
Duncan averaged 9.2 ppg and shot 38% from 3 point range as a senior
Yet, he is a starter and has a reputation as the best pure shooter in the NBA.
He is averaging 13.5 points / game and is shooting 45% from 3 point range
There is speculation that he will earn a long-term contract approaching $100M soon
I actually think Duncan is a tremendous weapon on any NBA team and very deserving of that big contract

I do not have an answer to this. Its just one of these things I cannot explain
