While I understand it's a rivalry game for UM, I would bet all of my money that players like Elliott, Jones, Barrett, Bosa, etc. will remember other games they've played in more than the UM games up to this point. Specifically the Alabama and Oregon games last year.
The real question…which is a bigger rivalry: The Indiana-Purdue game or MSU-Indiana game? Now those are some true rivalries!!!

As far as the MSU win over UM, UM wouldn't have been in the game without superior special teams play throughout MOST of the game (obviously not the whole game).
MSU dominated the line of scrimmage, time of possession, first downs, and total yards. UM wouldn't have been in the game without the fact their special teams were far better through MOST of the game.
If that botched punt attempt had happened in the first half, instead of the last play of the game, people wouldn't even remember it.

Unfortunately for UM, ALL the plays in ALL the game count the same. UM didn't finish. MSU did.
Those are the facts, and until you actually BEAT MSU, you can brag all you want about a close game.

No, the truth is msu dominated one category...passing yards. Michigan outplayed and outcoached sparty. The funny thing is that this isn't anything unexpected for sparty. They were SUPPOSED to be this good. Even with their injuries their fans were talking about how great the depth was and that the backups could win the conference title. So sparty isn't doing anything that they weren't expected to this season. The really funny thing is, as bad as Michigan was SUPPOSED to be, they gave the game away on the mother of all flukes. That's the only reason sparty won. They needed an absolute miracle to win. The best part of the whole thing is that this is only year one with Harbaugh. With a team that was not supposed to be that great at all. And they almost beat sparty's best team ever if they didn't decide to give them the game. The talent influx, and the coaching, is going to give Michigan the upper hand for a long, long time. And a sparty fan, despite how great their team supposedly is this season, is over here trying to tell us that hahaha. Enjoy your gift of the century...tides are a changing quickly.

first downs
Those are the stats that never lie as far as who was the dominant team.
UM was damn lucky to be ahead at all. Especially with the ridiculous touchdown where the forward progress was stopped for a full 7 seconds, before they received a gift score.

Sure your boy Jimmy outcoached MD. That's exactly why he didn't max out the punt protection on the final play. That was real smart.
Even if the punter doesn't bobble the snap there was a pretty good chance it would have been blocked.
Good coaching on Jimmy's part there.
I'm not going to try and rip on Harbaugh, because he is a good hire and will do a great job at UM.
MD and MSU aren't going away just because Jimmy's there now.
I expect the rivalry to be very tough in the future.
It's just hilarious that UM supporters are acting like that loss to MSU didn't count or something. It counts.
I'm not sure who is discounting the win. MSU won and that won't change. The funny thing is hearing from the sparty fans how they truly felt like that game was theirs. If you want to talk about the touchdown call, let's talk about some of the ridiculous penalties that were called against Michigan and provided significant help to sparty. If even some of those penalties were called differently the punt at the end may not have even mattered.
Look, I'm not discounting the win at all. Sparty is doing great this year. They were supposed to and they are living up to their pre-season expectations. Michigan has far exceeded expectations this year. They ALMOST beat one of the best (if not the best) sparty teams in the program's history...in Harbaugh's first year. I do agree that both programs can and will likely be great while both coaches are around. They are both great coaches and you won't get any argument from me about that.
