The inherent flaw in what we're trying to be offensively (long)

It's very difficult to obtain, and its unsustainable.

To clarify, what we're trying to be is an NFL offense. It's insanely complex, and requires a very highly capable QB.

Sustainably successful offensive schemes, OSU comes to mind, are plug and play. Reload with athletes and you can be very competitive right away, and continuously.

What we're trying to be requires years for players to develop and mature, and if you don't have a highly capable QB, you're F'd.

This is why Peters or Mcaffery aren't options. The staff is rolling with the QBs that should give us the best chance to win based on their experience. Unfortunately, both Speight and O'Korn have proven to be highly incapable.

Now, it CAN work given consistent recruiting at a high level - ala Alabama. We've recruited well, but have fallen short with the OL and at RB - arguably the two most important position groups.

It also requires continuity from a scheming standpoint. Fisch gone. Wheatley gone. Enter zone blocking scheme Greg Frey. Enter Pip Hamilton. We're falling very very short of continuity on that side of the ball.

Jim had Andrew Luck at Stanford, and an elite OL. We didn't get to see how he dealt with the inherent turnover at these crucial positions at the college level.

This is not the league. Scheming as if it is, and failing to recruit at an Alabama level will result in a lot of lumps like last night.

Assuming our current level of recruiting sustains, maybe the stars will align every 3-4 years and we will be cyclically dominate. Aside from that, buckle up.
