Jim hates security. He believes it breeds laziness and sub par effort. If you look at each of his coaching stops, nothing was assured and absolutely nothing was guaranteed in respect to the positions on the field.
Many here have an illusion of security as it pertains to certain positional starters. Everyone is discussing how an open QB competition is somehow a bad thing, while clearly ignoring how every single position on this team is an open competition. If you don't believe me, look at the returning starters lost for San Diegoand Stanford and San Francisco the years Jim arrived. Then compare to the starting line ups on day 1. I have. And it is clear that Jim HATES SECURITY that comes with players thinking their spots is assured.

You want to beat a crap a$$ program like MSU and the powerhouses like Ohio? Embrace insecurity. It is what breeds the gumption of greatness. It is what forges the winning at all costs mentality. Having players who have to fight tooth and nail just to see the field, is exactly what you want. AT EVERY DAMN POSITION, even the QB. Just look what Jim did with Smith and Kaepernik. And look at the results. I think we should all stop acting like having 8 QB's or more is a bad thing. Compete. Fight. Stop looking for security and start fighting for greatness! Let the best man win. Period.
