My long take on things.

I think most of us want Michigan football to be great. There are some who could take it or leave it and simply enjoy watching the games and supporting the team. And that, cool. But I think most of us want Michigan football to be great. And it’s frustrating to see us be so very close to that and yet, in some ways, so very far.

The good - Our defense is very solid. More defensive lineman should be able to make their way into the rotation as the year progresses and more DB’s should become more trustworthy too. More is more.

The bad news - the offensive line STILL stinks. We should have guessed right on five offensive linemen in recruiting by now but there’s still one or two that can’t figure it out. I hope to hear Runyan’s name somewhere in the starting lineup soon and maybe Ruiz or Bushell-Beatty.

The ugly - Speight sucks. If there was anybody who ever had to pull his head out of his butt, it’s that guy. He has the ability. Unfortunately, he chooses when he wants to concentrate on what he’s doing, set his feet right, and make the right throws. The rest of the time he’s lazy. I was wondering yesterday when Harbaugh would finally realize this guy isn’t going to cut it. I came to the conclusion we’ll probably have to lose to somebody we shouldn’t. I was expecting a 10-2/9-3 type season this year. I may have to reduce my expectations.

The wonderful – I LOVED seeing Ohio State lose. I loved watching Urban Meyer in panic mode. His reactions were pure gold. Someone asked me if it was too much for Baker Mayfield to plant the flag at mid-field. In that moment, I honestly said I would have liked to see him drop his pants and take a dump on the fifty-yard line, so no I don’t think trying to plant the flag was too much.
