I'm not seeking advice, because I already know what I'm going to do (record the game while watching long stretches of streaming coverage on my phone in the men's room), but I'm curious how others would respond.
We are in bar mitzvah season and have one most Saturdays. Our daughter's was three weeks ago. So far, none of the services have conflicted with games - there's been a move to shorter afternoon services and kick-off times in Cali are 3 hours ahead. Evidently, the almighty has been looking after me this year, until....
Of course, there's a conflict this week. Plus, it's an excruciatingly long, early morning service. With a little week to week variation, the same thirty local families attend each of these events. And, of course, this one is the most observant family that we know. They're in the second tier of close friends, not in the top five families we hang with, but definitely top ten. For them, these events are a BIG DEAL and they'd be seriously hurt if I skipped the service to watch the game.
My wife is sympathetic (she understands what The Game means to me), but can't really understand why this year's edition is different and doesn't see any choice for me, anyway. I could call in sick, but I'd be exposed by everyone instantly. Being me, I rolled over without much protest.
Just curious....What would you do?
