I have been a massive Harbaugh defender, but anybody paying attention the last few years has to have noticed the basic effort has eroded from our staff, namely the head coach.
think about this for a second: when JH got here he was the “jackhammer.” Satellite camps, sleepovers, climbing trees, relentlessly recruiting against anybody and everybody no matter location. The guy was out of his mind in the best possible way.
to me, everything changed when Washington and Mattison left. That class we were big game hunting, as usual. At one time or another we thought we were the favorites for Crouch, Harrison, Petit-Frere, the list goes on. We were going toe to toe with everyone for the absolute best players. At the end? We largely struck out and lost our best young recruiter, and clearly the key to our DL.
then what? Total laziness. Now we recruit kids that literally any Michigan coach could get with ease. The northeast? Battling who? When was the last time we won a head to head battle with OSU on the trail? How about for a player not from Michigan? You could say corum. He’s the only guy I can think of in literally years. Even JJ, a guy I am extremely excited about, was passed over by both OSU and ND. How are we doing against ND in terms of recruiting?
where did the effort go? The man was willing to sleep over in Rockford for a kicker. Now he can’t be bothered to step foot in the state of Ohio. I understand we blame 2016 Osu, but 2018 was still a very strong season, the revenge tour was great. I think the Washington/Mattison defection was disastrous to the program and Harbaugh’s psyche. It underscored don brown being the problem with an even bigger voice than he had previously. We panicked with the hire of Gattis, and now we are a team totally void of identity; with a head coach seemingly giving 1/10 the effort he once did.
