Lack of SINGULAR FOCUS towards OSU...
I live in Columbus and have friends who has access to OSU practices etc. A reporter asked Urban Meyer to give some insight on his preparation for Michigan...his response was, “it’s a certain respect you have to have for that team, a certain respect you have to have for the rivalry. It’s a 365 (days) thing. Not a week thing.”
Urban Meyer is 38-5 against rivals and has 3 national championships, maybe we should put our pride and arrogance aside and listen to what he’s saying and what our coaches and players aren’t. Carlos Kemp mentioned after the beating, “You have 6 DAYS to prepare for it, and you give it your best shot on Saturday.” How can you beat a team that is preparing to beat YOU 365 days of the year and you’re treating every game like a championship game and you have a “it’s the next game up” mentality?
OSU puts EVERYTHING into beating Michigan. Their whole culture is based on beating us. Hence why OCCASIONALLY they struggle with a team they have no business struggling against. But the talent they have is enough to “get through”. They have gold pants for players who beat us, their sleds has the winged helmet on them, their practice squad... the week of the game.... wears our uniforms, they have a session IN EVERY PRACTICE called “The Maize and Blue Session”. We’re not doing ANY of that.
Yes the coaches may watch film constantly for OSU, but they’re not insilling the EVERY DAY focus and importance on beating OSU.
Think for a second....if we had teams schematically and personnel wise SPECIFICALLY ENGINEERED to beat OSU, we should and would beat the other teams in the conference and put ourselves in best possible situation to beat our arch rival in the end. That’s a win/win. Guess who has adopted that kind of mindset....Tressel, Myer and Dantonio. They’ve been successful against us, we should start taking notes.
