That last play reminded me almost exactly of the Kordell Stewart

Hail Mary. Defense lets the qb get enough momentum to heave into the end zone. All you go to do is box the qb in the pocket...make him roll out of the left (at best) and the ball doesn't make it to the end zone. Let them throw the ball 40 yards downfield...it doesn't matter.

Not trying to sack him...trying to contain him.

I was in a bar watching that game vs. Colorado and I just shook my head when they rushed 3 players. When you know the qb can throw the ball 60 yards then your primary goal should be not to let the qb throw the ball 60 yards.

So Rodgers can throw the ball 60 yards with a running start but not 60 or 65 yards flat footed or going to his left. Too long. So basically it's pretty simple...you have about 5 guys up on the line. One sets the edge on both sides and you play containment. Keep him 65 yards or so away with no running start.

This isn't 20/20 hindsight...just common sense. The ball is going 60 + yards so the defenders have plenty of time to know where the ball is going. The qb can't throw it across the field so you just rotate to where the qb is located.

I forgot the Lions were on last night. Thankfully. There is never joy in being a fan of that team. It's amazing people still go to the games. I mean, why?

I was at the game, pure miser, par for the course for the Lions...it's why I stopped following them when Barry retired, nothing has changed.

reading from various reports. Megatron was NOT in the package as Caldwell thought Rodgers would run and lateral. However, the brain trust had two linebackers in the end zone. Tate was the other guy who should have been inserted but like Megatron they rode the bench.

It's an unfortunate loss but the one bright side is the draft pick will be higher. And maybe a new coach, too.

The "brain trust" decision making has been mind boggling to say the least! I don't see how Caldwell survives.
