for your great 12 years of running Michigan basketball and bringing it to great heights. I am a little older than you at age 70. I pretty much have seen it all in person or on television.
In the 60s I saw the Dave Strack-coached team with Cazzie, Buntin, Pomey, Darden, Myers and Cantrell play in the old Yost Fieldhouse before Crisler was built. They lost to UCLA in one Final. In the late 60s and 70s I lived in AA for eight years and saw the great Michigan teams, including the teams with Campy Russell, Phil Hubbard, Ricky Green, Dan Fife, Steve Grote and Wayman Britt. In 76 we went to the NCAA Finals and lost to the Bobby Knight undefeated Hoosier champions. In the 80s I saw on television the superb team coached by Frieder and Fischer, who won the whole enchilada with Rice, Rumeal, Higgens, Mills, Vaught, and Hughes. Finally, in the early 90s I watched the Fab Five play in two consecutive NCAA Finals with Webber, Howard, Rose, King, Jackson and Riley.
But you are the greatest Michigan basketball coach of all time. You taught more, developed better, outhustled, out recruited, and just outcoached the other Big Ten contempoaries and all your UM predecessors. You were the greatest of all of them.
Thanks for your time, staying clean, teaching team ball and changing the culture. As you move forward to the next level, thanks for all the memories. And best of luck. Go Cavs!
