There are certainly reasons for concern after two games--many of us have posted about them and continue to do so. It always surprises me though how people seem to forget teams and/or units which have changed their performance dramatically during the course of the season. Remember how Devin Gardner was going to be a Heisman candidate after the Notre Dame in 2013? Or how our 2015 defense was an all timer before our late season struggles against IU and OSU (and even Minnesota)? Or, on the flip side, for you older posters, what a tire fire our '80 defense was for the first half of the season--Bo (!) faked a punt from our 29 in the fourth quarter against South Carolina because he thought we couldn't stop them (it didn't work and we couldn't stop them)--that team went from a sieve to one which didn't allow a TD in its last 22 quarters. Heck, if you're a hoops fan, remember LAST YEAR--how good we were early, how mediocre/bad we were for the month and a half after New York, and how good we were after that.
Sometimes, it's clear that a team is going to be very bad early on because it lacks talent. Sometimes, with teams with overwhelming talent, the reverse is true. Otherwise, teams evolve and it's way too early to jump to conclusions about what we will be like, either as a team, or as units or individuals, when MSU comes to town, much less later in the season when we see PSU, Wisconsin and OSU. There are some early indications, and some of them are concerning to me and others, but I think we need to pump the brakes a bit about what looks good and bad. Plenty of time to panic or celebrate after more evidence comes in.
