Seen a few threads either criticizing current team captains, lamenting that certain players were not selected as team captains, or floating hypothetical future requirements for team captains. Might be useful to remember these two things:
1) IIRC, captains are selected purely from a team vote. I don’t think the coaches name the captains.
2) IIRC, at least this year, there were 4 captains selected. Two on the offensive side of the ball & two on the defense, and in each side of the ball it had to be 1 Junior and 1 Senior. So, for example, it’s entirely possible that certain guys NOT selected (like Winovich) might have been the #2 vote getter on the entire squad, but if the #1 vote getter happened to be the Senior Defensive captain, then it wouldn’t have mattered if (again, just a hypothetical) Winovich was literally the 2nd most popular guy on the entire team.
