Other then Bama, who has just had solid teams top to bottom all the teams that have either won or played in the playoffs have had rock solid "college" QBs. Watson, Marcus M., Cordale Jones, JT, Jameis Winston, Mayfield...perhaps even Cook who was very good in college. You need someone that can put the team on their shoulder against the elite teams for a couple quarters and weather the storm otherwise you don't stand a shot. I still don't see that from Speight just yet and I am not sure he will ever get there. I am hoping Peters or McCaffery have that rare skill of being gamers but Speight is a QB that will manage games, not carry the team on his back.

Essentially over the next year or 2 for us to win, we would have to do it the way Bama has done - solid across the board. On another note, Watson's performance yesterday was just special. I am not sure how well he will do in the NFL but that kid is a gamer. I know people on this board might think I am crazy but I believe if Gardner had a good QB coach (or anyone not named Hoke/Nuss/Borges) he could have developed into a very special QB...such a shame. Congrats to Clemson.

Even for a balanced team like Bama you just can't have an offense disappear and allow your defense to wear down.

In the 3 UM losses we saw the defense on the field way too much by the end of the game because the offense
did not move the ball enough to keep them off the field.

Also at the end of the season UM (like Bama in the title game) did not seem to have a deep threat which allowed defenses to
compress the field further taking away from the ability to get time of possession.

Speight needs to become a QB that presents a deep threat (with some receivers that can stretch the field) ...
without that a ball control offense can be shut down it seems.
