There were a number of skeptics among us a scant few weeks ago claiming that Wilton was the place holder for Brandon or Dylan. Care to update your thinking on him? His feet continue to be a great asset in moving in the pocket and and he has some of the best throwing form of any UM QB this side of Brady, Navarre as a senior or Henne. And he has room to improve and grow!

I don't think he's physically as gifted as perhaps some of the others but his poise and ability to manage the game has been really fun to watch. As long as JH is coaching I don't think we have to worry about the QB position. He has been incredibly impressive since his terrible outing at Rutgers. I thought Ruddock through the Rutgers, IU, PSU stretch was incredible and I am going to go out and say that Speight has been better. I still like Ruddock's ability to run and I think our O-line was a shell of itself this time last year but WS has been impressive.

Only thing to watch will be how he does against a great defense. He held his own against Wisci but Maryland and MSU are both pretty terrible. Either way, our future looks incredibly bright at this position - if Speight is not starting the next 2 years it means someone is better then him and beat him at the position. Great problems to have!

BTW, on a side note, major kudos to Morris for sticking around to get his degree.

His pocket awareness has grown by leaps and bounds.... Not taking sacks. He's either making a guy miss or finding a way to get rid of the ball w/o throwing into coverage.. Give him time and he'll absolutely carve up a defense..

Speight should really be considered for offensive Big Ten player of the year. Not just 1st team. Still a few games left but I would look at him, Barkley and a few others. He has been very impressive. Made some money throws.

I don't think he is losing his job anytime soon unless Peters is the college version of Ryan Leaf. If Speight continues to improve over the next year and change he may actually go pro early. Really. Guy has the size and moxie inside the pocket.

Not the prettiest thrower but if he improves certain aspects of his game people are going to want him in the NFL. Who would you want right now...Speight or last year with Cook? Sounds crazy but this guy could be an early entry after next year. We will see. I think Skene said something interesting that I wouldn't have believed a year ago in that Speight reminds him of Grbac. Yeah...I see it. Not as good. Elvis was better but Speight is still raw and can still develop. That OSU game is where the nation will be watching.

No one will take his job....no one
It's kind of funny tracking the posts on UM QBs the last two seasons. About midseason last year people here were screaming for Jake Rudock's job (perhaps rightfully so, but there was no one to take it of course). He burned it up the rest of the way. This year Speight is solid, but not necessarily superb and posters are talking freshmen taking his job. Harbaugh is an outstanding QB developer, I'm not surprised to see Speight do a big jump in-season.

Yeah, Speight has been a very pleasant surprise. I was, however, always in the camp that thought it doesn't really matter who the QB is, because Harbaugh is going to get the best out of him.
