1. I have to give Phil Steele his due. I thought Harbaugh was one of those rare coaches for whom the “experience is important” mantra didn’t apply. Turns out, I was wrong. This is a very young team, and in time it will be great, but now is not the time.
2. I love Don Brown, but he got abused Saturday. I don’t care how much you love your own scheme, you can’t cover Saquon Barkley with Mike McCray (a lesson Dalvin Cook taught us), and you can’t cover Hamilton with a safety. Put your best cover safety on Barkley, put Hill on Hamilton, and plan from there.
3. The offense? What can I say that others haven’t already? It’s a huge mess. We absolutely *have* to give Peters some snaps. He may not be the answer, but JOK is gone after this year. Even if you love Wilton (and that’s an extreme position to take at this point), I don’t know if he can physically hold up.
4. I look at what JH did at Stanford - nothing fancy. They played strong, *tough* fundamental football. And it really worked. I love JH, but I’m starting to wonder if the satellite camps, sleepovers, Signing of the Stars, Jordan, Migos concert, Rome trip, etc., etc., was necessary. I mean, Stanford was as down as a program could be when he took over. Now it’s been very good for 10 years. If you win big at Michigan, the rest will take care of itself. I love his energy, enthusiasm, and creativity, but right now maybe what we need is a return to toughness - no frills, just Jim coaching the $hit out of this team until they “get it.” To hear of OL making the same, basic mistakes play after play - that’s a focus issue and one I’m shocked we are having.
5. And last of all, God our fans are brutal. Just stop. The sense of entitlement rivals the ND fan base, which isn’t a compliment. We have the best man for the job, and it’s not close. People far smarter than those who frequent this board have predicted the full turnaround could take 4-5 years. Just be patient.
