Recruiting thoughts......

Some random thoughts:

- Ohio State has signed/received verbals from the following blue-chip RBs:

'15 mike weber
'16s kareem walker, george hill and demario walker
"17s bruce judson and todd sibley

Lots of talent there and a couple (judson & mccall) will probably fill the percy harvin slot role. Still, the law of diminishing returns is starting to apply here. There will not be enough balls to go around for all these backs. No doubt, the starters will be outstanding, but better for us that ohio state overload in ball carriers who are five star types than spread those supers out over more positions. Their other recent verbals- wohlabaugh, barrow and borland-are good players but not elite level talents like most of the backs.

- in my view there is not a super '16 rb out there. I think that when all is said and done matt falcon, who has been injury prone, could have as high of a ceiling as any '16 back in the nation. Still, i think it does not approach the ceilings of alabama commits '15 damien harris and '17 najee harris. The Tide will keep on rolling.

- an interesting phenomenon we are seeing this spring is many unofficial visits to spring practice and games by 8th graders. Schools in the south such as clemson, south carolina, tennessee, georgia, alabama and auburn are leading this trend but Ohio State just had GA super owen pappoe up for their Spring game and rising belleville frosh qb dwan mathis recently visited Michigan.

- expect Michigan to offer stud California '17 ol wyatt davis soon. He is a big tim drevno fan and michigan is an offer that he publicly has stated that he really wants. He could be one of the top 6-7 OL prospects in his class.

- interesting that cass tech has lost a few kids to transfers. The highest profile are levert hill to king and stud '18 wr brandon gay to southfield. Still they have loads of talent.

- oak park high looks to be a Michigan-pipeline in the making with coach carter, the former Deporres head man, now in charge. My memory fails me as to whether he was already coaching at Deporres when Chris Singletary was playing there, but no doubt the bond between the two is strong. In addition to stud '17 ol jaraymond hall and stud '18 ol marquan mccall, they have a sleeper 6-7 '17 ot (i can't recall his name as i type this on my iphone on a plane with no wifi) who recently visited michigan. He transferred in this year from river rouge and had to sit out his fall semester but started for the basketball team from mid-january once eligible.

- not sure if anybody has pointed out that craig dunaway ( father of the two brother rice future wolverines) overlapped with jim harbaugh at michigan for one year. During the 1982 season dunaway was a fourth year senior starter at TE while Harbaugh was redshirting as a freshman QB. If you catch the movie The Big Chill there is a clip of Dunaway making a catch.

- getting back to ohio state and recruiting, people need to be patient. Of course the Buckeyes are on a roll after winning the national title. So was michigan with their '98 class and pete carroll after the bush/leinart teams dominated. These great classes did not translate into future dominance. Only in 2006 did Carr have a team that again was relevant nationally and we all know that jim harbaugh's undermanned Stanford teams did to USC. Remaining at the pinnacle is hard, hard, hard. Alabama has come closest, but even they, with their consensus number one classes, could not handle ohio state. Lets just give harbaugh and his staff time to put together their classes and coach up the current players. Focus on what Michigan is doing to become champions and soon you will see that we are back in the national conversation.

Just landed, so time to post this.
