While Josh and I are frustrated by the rollout and early lack of information, I think the immediate future will bring good things to you all, our community.
Which, I hope goes without saying, is always our priority.
From a National perspective, this is great news. With the recruiting folks at On3 like Steve Wiltfong (assuming) all coming under the Rivals brand, we will become a powerhouse for recruiting coverage. I am a massive fan of many of our analysts, but it's no secret we've had gaps in some of our rankings for instance. Consolidation of talent at the top for recruiting coverage will be a great thing.
You all as subscribers getting access to On3's college coverage will also be a great thing. There's a reason the On3 brand will focus on college sports, NIL, the portal. They were very good at it and made it their focus from the start. So now you'll have access to all of that, and I think that's a great thing.
The semantics of this entire thing are important in my opinion. On3 did acquire Rivals, but in reality those two brands along with Yahoo Sports merged. Yahoo Sports owned Rivals, but now it has ownership in On3 which includes the Rivals brand. Personal opinion here, but don't be shocked if Yahoo Sports ownership stake grows at some point.
As far as our site, the way I see it, nothing changes until told otherwise. We are incredibly proud of this community we built and the way we operate. Our coverage does not stop. We will continue to provide the same type of intel, analysis, and news as we always have. We are going to focus on what we can control. This is our home, our brand. We built it, we own it.
I am so proud to work for, learn from, and be friends with Josh. I am so proud of Brock and the writer he is and the way his voice has grown on our pods and elsewhere. I am so proud to be associated with Dennis Fithian and the incredible work he does for us. I'm proud of Seth and the coverage he has provided for us as he's grown to cover multiple programs. I am so proud of Aidan and the incredible home run start he has had. Josh and I believe that with this team, we can provide the best source of honest Michigan sports coverage out there. So that's what we will do.
As far as the rest, well, as Josh says, it is what it is.
