Their NFL early departed, resigned, transferred, red locked and Ingham County jailed, are final. Here is the carnage from their 2 deep: McDowell, Lyke, Copeland, Vance, King, Corley, Lukusa, Nicholson, Robertson, and Reschke. Notice that 9 of these are from their defensive two deep with 7 of those probable starters.
The good news for Sparty. They are back to a unified locker room where accountability and character reign supreme. #spartandawgs are back. Problem is, Pat Narduzzi isn't.
The bad news... Their first scrimmage had their defense beating their offense. Ouch! How is that even possible? Their defense was bad last year and losing 9 guys could not have made it better. Especially when 7 of those guys were their most talented.
On offense:
They have two guys that could start for us. Allen and Scott. From there on it is a crap shoot. Their OL is thin, young, and inexperienced. Their TEs, WRs are the same. Comp says that Cody White is better than DPJ, so there's that. I like Lewerke and think he can win some games for them, if he survives. And with his OL, I do not see that as likely. Corley is a huge loss. Lukusa too.
On defense:
Defensive Line?
They have two walk on DE's in their 2 deep. Converted linebackers who are in the 245 pound range. Their starting DT's are solid. But after that they have zero depth. They ranked dead last in sacks in the Power 5 last year. What will their pass rush look like this year? I bet King, Robertson, and McDowell would have helped.
Linebackers?
Their best LB is Chris, the Ultimate Warrior, Frey. Yes, that Chris Frey. Who is he better than on our team? When you find that out, go ahead and post the answer below. Reschke would have really helped them this year.
Back 4?
They are starting 1 true freshman, two sophomores and 1 junior. None of these guys would start in front of Nicholson, Lyke, Copeland, Corley, or Vance. Think about that.
Bunker reaction?
Koolaid is being served in abundance. They are back to MSU basics where team chemistry reigns supreme! Most believe that this is a 6 - 9 win season. Nobody can see any scenario less than 6 wins.
Socal4mich prognosis: They have had no camp injuries yet. They will need that streak to continue as they have no depth at any position other than RB. The only position they are better this year than last is at QB. They finished 3-9 last year. They had more talent than a 3-9 team. They have less talent this year, by a lot. If they are upset early or have kids banged up, it could get ugly. Their lack of depth will crush them as the season wears on.
I see a 6 win ceiling.
