Kind of a punk move, unless he has bad heartburn like Meyer.
Then again, why couldn't Clappy have done this last year?

I don't buy it. Especially with Spurrier's tenure at USCjr/UF.Burnout
Hmmmmm...Weird comment via ESPN from Spurrier, something to the effect he's resigning, not retiring...sounds like he simply wants out of SC
Interesting didn't know that re Mr Thin SkinSouth Carolina is my second team so I've seen how the age thing is hurting not only recruiting but the kids just are not play like they are coached well. This move by Spurrier will accually help USC move forward. As for who's next I don't see them hiring from within the current staff. Don't be surprised if Dantonio ( Carolina grad and explayer) ends up there.
AGP. Maybe there's some behind the scenes stuff we don't know, but it seems like a douche move. Not fair to the kids-when he agreed to coach this year, that presumes he will coach out the season. If he felt like he needed to retire, he should have come to that conclusion in the offseason.I don't buy it. Especially with Spurrier's tenure at USCjr/UF.
All of a sudden burnout? Yeah.....no.
You think SCar is going to make a play for him?Spurrier was not fired. It was his decision to step down now. He wanted to last year but was begged to stay on one more year. His heart is not in it and you can tell by their play. Good move getting out right now. Dantonio is going on be asked to consider USC after the season.
Given his relationship to USC, it's a no-brainer, he's an outstanding coach that would fit in very well with the SEC.Yes. Dantonio is on the top of their list.
The Carolinas have fairly good HS players and obviously GA and FL are loaded states (as are VA and others in the South). If the money is right, you never know...Dantonio is not going to leave East Lansing for a mid tier SEC program like USC. They are awful this year and have very few athletes. Spurrier has not done well recruiting the last few years. Clemson is getting the top players in SC but both them and Clemson get the majority of their players out of Georgia and Florida.
