Things I don’t understand:
1) How is it that we have a coach who has had huge success at several places (INCLUDING AT MICHIGAN!!!) and suddenly seems to be Brady Hoke 2.0 when it comes to managing an offense and play calling?
2) Why do we throw 4-6 WR screens a game? They rarely gain any yards with this group and don’t help our offensive line.
3) Why do we keep running the same play on 1st down… HIGDON UP THE MIDDLE!!! The opposing defense knows it, has defended it all night, and we are desperate for better field position on 2nd and 3rd downs.
4) **PAUSE FOR A 4 MINUTE TV TIMEOUT***
5) The offensive line still seems to be sub par, although it does show improvement. If we want to run a 1980's offense AND we have an OL that struggles, why don’t we run the 1980's complement of a RB SCREEN? OSU did that last night and sprung it for a TD. I've seen it this year so I know we have it in our playbook. It’s inconceivable that we don’t run this play 3-4 times a game.
6) **PAUSE FOR A 4 MINUTE TV TIMEOUT***
7) Why is this team making so many mental errors? A great example was failing to call a Fair Catch and getting the ball on the 25 on NW’s 2nd kickoff. Instead, we get the ball on the 14 when we don’t have any confidence and, yep, go three and out to set up NW’s 2nd score. Amazing.
8) **PAUSE FOR A 3 MINUTE INJURY TIMEOUT***
9) For a team that has 2 WRs in Collins and Black who don’t want to redshirt because they believe they won’t be here past 4 years, and 5 defensive players (Hill, Long, Gary, Hudson, Bush) who all think they are high draft picks after their Junior year, our results and their individual play sure leaves A LOT to be desired. The only two players living up to that consideration are Long and Bush.
10) And Gary? Maybe he’s hurt, but his productivity leaves a lot to be desired. I fear that he’s got NFL bust written all over him if he leaves after this year. A lot of Fort posters believe that he’s double and triple teamed every play… he’s not. He’s an incredible athlete who doesn’t have very refined technique and gets off the line slowly. He sounds like a great teammate who works hard in practice and has great potential. I like him, but keep waiting to see G-A-R-Y instead of gary. At this point, folks who think he’s a top 10 NFL pick are sniffing glue.
11) How is Chase Winovich not a team captain? Guy is the best player on the team with a non-stop motor and tremendous heart.
There are a lot of things to like with this team, but the negatives are overwhelming.
