I came across an interview with Jim Comparoni of Spartan Mag while driving home last night. I have no idea who the radio host was but you could tell by his leading questions that the guy was a MSU fan. Eventually he got around to asking the question of star rankings and what's more important between recruiting rankings and player development.
I'll admit that I was waiting for Comparoni to shower praise on Dantonio and minimize recruiting rankings and boast about development. But I have to give him credit because he basically said that great player development may get you to the playoff, but it's not enough to compete with Alabama or Clemson. He pointed out that of the 22 kids on the All B10 1st team, 11 of them were 4* or 5* players even though 4* & 5* players usually only make up 15% of the recruiting pool. He even said that if MSU wants to consistently beat OSU and UM they're going to have to start producing top 15 - 20 classes annually.
Most of you probably don't care about this at all but I thought it was a pretty interesting conversation where Comparoni pretty much refused to buy into the propaganda and just laid it out there. It's the first time I've listened to him do an interview where he hasn't said something that I found to be total spin or red meat for a shell shocked fan base.
