I find it disappointing when players skip bowl games, but understand that the trend will only continue. What I find strange and have not seen mentioned is when prospects play in games like the Senior Bowl. A player does not want to risk injury in a "meaningless" bowl game, but is willing to risk it in a game like this? That does not make sense. Unfortunately, the skipping of games will only grow more over the years. If I am a highly rated talent, why play a non-conference game against Citadel or UT-Chattanooga if I am an SEC player like Tua or Jake Fromm? If I am Dax Hill, why play in a game like the Under Armour game? Isn't the risk of injury greater in all-star games with limited practice? This would be especially true for offensive players. I would not want to be a running back or quarterback with a few days of putting in plays behind an offensive line that is learning to play together.
I would love to see NFL GM's consider skipping games a red mark in the evaluation process. I would want guys who put team first and want to play ball. Otherwise you get LeVeon Bell's who don't care about their team and focus on "me first."
