I haven't looked at the stats but it appears that teams get almost as many first downs on defensive penalties when they throw the ball as they do on catches. With oline holding almost legal, pick routes legal , and penalties on the defensive player all over ...why not pass on almost every play...
I get that we need the defense to respect the run game and that late in the game and half you need to work the clock...but I predict that we will soon see teams not even attempt a run pretty soon if the rules stay the way they are.
