Crushing the Minnesota school record by 6.
His 30 TD passes would also be: an Illinois record by 3, an Indiana record by 2, an Iowa record by 3, a Maryland record by 4, a Michigan record by 5, an MSU record by 5, a Nebraska record by 4, NW record by 8, a PSU record by 1. (Note: I refuse to list Rutgers both out of spite and so as not to diminish the accomplishments of the QBs listed in this post.)
The only Big 10 QBs who have thrown more TDs in a season than Tanner Morgan:
50 Haskins, OSU
41 Fields
39 Brees
35 Barrett
34 Barrett
33 Russell Wilson
31 Orton
30 Troy Smith
So the only people who have thrown more than Morgan are: two first ballot NFL hall of famers (Brees, Wilson), a guy who would probably win the Heisman if not for Lawrence but hey he might anyway (Fields), a 3-time Big 10 QB of the year (Barrett), a guy who threw over 100 TD passes in the NFL (Orton), and the conference record holder (Haskins) who was also a first round draft pick. That's just a ridiculously elite list especially when you consider all the great QBs who never came close to that list.
Maybe Morgan goes on to have a great final 2 seasons at Minnesota and a good NFL career, but it blows my mind that he's anywhere close to this list. It's not like he is physically impressive (just 6'1 200) or has some great arm. He wasn't highly recruited (offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Cinci, Louisville, Toledo, Tulane, Wake, WMU . . . and that's it). He was beat out his freshman year by another freshman, walk-on Zack Annexstad. Annexstad suffered a season-ending foot injury a month before last season started, making Morgan the starter by default. Then he goes on to throw 30 TD passes. Incredible.
