I've read several posts where people have drawn conclusions based upon a small amount of "short term" data. I realize as fans we are often looking for comfort in easy fixes that seem so obvious. The results of this game should at least serve to teach us a valuable lesson that overall trends are more indicative of reality vs. flashes of brilliance.
For example , was there anyone last year in this board clamoring for more Devian Smith? He runs with an anvil on his back right? Chris Evans is way more explosive right? Reality- how many times did Smith have critical blitz pickups that lead to that extra second of protection? Smith had fewer lost fumbles in 3 years than the backs have had through 5 games. THERE WAS A REASON he was in the game
JOK has looked unimpressive at Michigan. He has one half of gutsy clutch football against Purdue and people reallly think the offense is substantially better DESPITE the larger body of data. There's a reason Speight was the starter.
Lastly, the team has struggled each game. Why would anyone think they would blow out Sparty? No reason to think they won't each step of the way from here out
