Shocking that a 16 year old and his family would decommit....never

saw this coming. I think this 'commitment' stuff is funny. I have really seen the light over the last year or so.

As one poster stated...there is no such thing as a commitment. Only signed letters of intent. That is it. No problem with any kid changing his mind. Boys and girls change their minds when dating. Boys and girls change their minds on their major. It's life and as I have mentioned before..I think these recruiting services (looking at you Rivals) need to change the term from commitment to possibly declaration or intent.

Seriously. I believe words are important. Do you have a problem when politicians make a campaign promise and then break it? People tend to get upset. Promise implies they will keep their word. Commitment...same thing.

This will be my cause going forward...use the appropriate word Rivals. :)

I would say the 70's :)...since they were my formative years along with the 80's.

I see another decommit. I personally don't mind these right now (early in the process) which allows UM to replace a lost declaration :).

In all seriousness...I am not trying to be unreasonable just would like organizations who obviously pride themselves in being professional and accurate to use appropriate terms.

What does it say for an organization like rivals when they say....so and so has committed and then reverses the commitment 6-9 months later. It makes the whole recruiting business unprofessional and unreliable which is the OPPOSITE of what they are trying to achieve as a business.

As I have mentioned before...I don't assume any of these kids are committed until the letter of intent is signed. If I were Rivals...I would continue to the recruiting business but acknowledge these verbal declarations and adapt their business model. It wouldn't hurt them financially but actually give them more credibility.

Commitments aren't formally part of the NCAA rules are they? Hence, you are correct, they don't really mean anything. Nothing to worry about.

What gets me is some of these remedial excuses some of these kids give for decommitting. It's as if they feel they should be the most important athlete to whichever school they committed to.

What do you mean, we have a recruit that was, horror, accidentally sent a "thank you" card. The insult, the injustice, the suffering, oh the humanity!

You're right. I guess UM should've been more sensitive to his needs. I mean....UM must be the only institute to ever spell his name wrong also, right?

Heard yesterday that this was likely a mother-driven decision and that there's plenty of time and opportunity on an official to win her back over.

Get your "Welcome Mrs. Salomon" signs ready for greeting her at the airport.

I see him going like Hawkins to Rutgers. Hawkins is at a Conn. Prep school but the Rutgers people are tryin to keep NJ kids in state. I see Hawkins doing that next year and then I see Amir doing the same. "74

Eh, the thank you card being sent accidentally, I can see that. He was on the list of attendees and then didn't make it up.

Getting the name misspelled, though. I don't get that. That is just sloppy. All you have to do is google it, for christ sake.

I have no idea, I just laugh that Americans are so thin-skinned that a misspelled note or an accidentally sent note would end the prospects of going to going to one of the top universities in the world to play football for one of the nation's best.

I would say it's more of an issue on how today's youth are being raised with this sense of entitlement.

Because mom was spoken to by Chris Asch from Rutgers as he also spoke to Hawkins to get out of UM's program. Asch will spin stuff ( ex OSU DC coach ) to get kids to change their minds in NJ. His home state. IMHO "74

I'm anticipating some serious beat downs of Rutgers the next few years. They got way too chippy and lippy last year plus the bs during the off-season

I think he was looking for an 'out' and found some cheesy excuse. It's all right...just say after thinking it over that you may want to play closer to home. I think we all understand that early 'commitments (cough cough) are exactly that...premature declarations and don't hold much weight when you add if they come from a different region of the U.S.

Would love to find out the 'commitment follow through to signing letter of intent' for kids 1 year out and outside of 100 miles. Probably 20% at the most.

You're likely right he was looking for an out. His commitment was very sudden and poorly thought through. Plus the pay is poorer this far north.

Here is something that doesn't get discussed. Do you really think this staff that Solomon was a solid commit? I doubt it. I think this staff takes commitments and then figures out who they really want by the end of the period.

I can only speak for myself...but I didn't think Solomon was going to stick at all.

Last thing...I don't care about guys in the 2018 class un-declaring. I don't care about guys who want to declare for UM as 14 year olds. It's stupid. I will review players about 45-60 days before NLI day.

To answer the recent players leaving IMHO,I have always prayed that GOD would care for Michigan FB, ( just like the millions who wish their team success and beating us ), and NEVER knew God was the first FOOTBALL player coach ! Read on and see , we in the end will overcome and be victorious, with God along side of us. Amen. Read all the way to wend to get my point. If you are for UM you've got to smile and feel confident.

Judges 7:1-7
1 Early in the morning, Jerub-Baal that is, Gideon and all his men camped at the spring of Harod. The camp of was north of them in the valley near the hill of Moreh.
2 The Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many men. I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me, ‘My own strength has saved me.’ 3 Now announce to the army, ‘Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead. So twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained.

4 But the Lord said to Gideon, “There are still too many men. Take them down to the water, and I will thin them out for you there. If I say, ‘This one shall go with you,’ he shall go; but if I say, ‘This one shall not go with you,’ he shall not go.”

5 So Gideon took the men down to the water. There the Lord told him, “Separate those who lap the water with their tongues as a dog laps from those who kneel down to drink.” 6 Three hundred of them drank from cupped hands, lapping like dogs. All the rest got down on their knees to drink.

7 The Lord said to Gideon, “With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the others go home. 8 So Gideon sent the rest of the Israelites home but kept the three hundred, who took over the provisions and trumpets of the others. Then With God they went down and kicked the living daylights out of the Big Ten !
