1-10 SMU15 Jet Sweep/Toss is strung out well by Winovich and Watson knocks Proche OOB for no gain, taking a finger to the eye on the play.
2-10 SMU15 WR screen opposite of Hudson blitz nets -1 with a solid play and tackle by Kinnel.
3-11 SMU14 Brown stopped for a yard by Dwumfour, holding on after taking the brunt of initial contact.
4-9 SMU16 PUNT DPJ fair catch at the Michigan 43.
OFFENSE
1-10 M43 Evans makes a nice outside cut to gain 4. Gentry gets pushed into the hole, but a LB was there anyway. Nice quick cut and straight upfield saves 3 yards.
2-6 M47 Shea saves 2 yards with a whodini move after Beatty lets a guy inside his gap and blocks nobody. Looked like Onwenu on first glance, but he actually does his best to get a hand on the DE
3-4 M49 Shea hits Gentry on the same play he missed him on the other two times. He does it under pressure, and makes a money throw. LB comes right through Ruiz and Onwenu, who are both occupied. I think Ruiz miscounted and the LB should have been the zero (Ruiz man), but he blocks the DT instead, with a little help from Bredeson. OL play is not my forte, though, so don’t @me if I’m wrong, lol. Gain of 24 for Gentry who will quickly become a huge player if teams keep stacking the run.
1-10 SMU27 Shea rolls left with a little read option to Wilson right out of the Pistol. He hits Perry on the run for a gain of 12. Tremendous throw.
1-10 SMU15 Wilson read option right for 7. McKeon and JBB execute a nice cross block combo and Ruiz is pulling. Wilson passes him up and gets tackled. I think Ruiz needs to get on his horse a little there, but Wilson could’ve also used a bit of patience on the well blocked edge. Pretty close to a potential TD. OR if McKeon is just a tad stronger on the block, Ruiz doesn’t have to think about the DE who was probably already behind the play.
2-3 SMU8 Mason dive up the middle for 1. Onwenu gets beat 1-on-1 by 10 and meets Mason at LOS, but Mason gets 2 anyway. #10 is strong. He has thrown both Bredeson an Onwenu around a bit today.
3-1 SMU6 Mason up the middle for 2 yards. Mason runs right through #10! Mason is gonna be near automatic based on those 2 runs. Onwenu needs to get better there. That should be his strength...going 1–on-1 in the run game.
1-G SMU4 Patterson fumbles...Shea needs to be better in the redzone. Snap looked high enough to me,
2-G SMU5 Patterson bootleg for 3. Might have been able to hit Gentry quickly or throw him open on two man route (McKeon was covered well in the end zone).
3-G SMU2 Evans stopped at 1/2 yard line. If he reads his block he cuts out and makes the end zone. Mason had the DE pinned inside.

Two big plays from SMU vs. blown coverage and then vs. triple coverage covers 80 yards. A missed tackle by Winovich and Bush contributed to a 14 yard run. The rest of the second quarter yielded negative yards.
A couple of tough penalties on Hudson and Metellus (combined with the 2 big pass plays) made the game seem closer, but we went 2-2 on possessions in the second quarter for TDs and made the big play on defense, which also had a couple of sacks from the interior. Mone and Kemp played very well in the first half as did Paye and Hutchinson. Of course, Winovich and Gary played very well, too, but each missed tackles.
