It was around 20 years ago that FSU announced Bobby Bowden's salary would clear $1M per year, making him one of (if not the) first FBS college head coaches to earn $1M per season. Note: this is base salary and does not include other perks, TV deals, attire contracts, etc.
By 2007 the AVERAGE salary for all FBS head coaches clears $1M per season, with over 50 making $1M+.
By 2016 the average salary of all FBS head coaches clears $3M with over 20 making $5M+
In 2009 the first Assistant Football Coach clears $1M is annual salary.
In 2016 there were over 20 assistant football coaches clearing $1M per year.
In 2017 UM becomes the first school to pay 3 assistant coaches $1M or more per year, to go along with the Head Coaches estimated $9M per year.
Bo's salary his final year was estimated at around $155K. He turned down a $250K per year deal at Texas A&M (Bo was given a pizza franchise by a UM supporter as incentive to stay at UM).
The average salary for a professor at UM last year was around $115K.
Around 2012 the faculty at Texas A&M University threatened to go on strike because the school board said they could not get a 3% pay raise. The faculty had not gotten a pay raise in over 4 years up to that time. Of course, this happened right after the University gave their head football coach a $2.5M per year raise.
Anyone see a trend here?
