running game to be successful. He is a game manager lite player.

He needs play action passes to succeed. It's all about the running game with Rudock. Here is a paste of another bloggers comments who said it better than I could...

And as the blogger states...it's going to get real ugly. Team is going to need the support of the home crowd.

If Maryland makes a play here or there, the Wolverines are on their heels and having to fight out of a hole. Both teams left a lot of opportunities on the field, and the game was 6-0 at halftime. Ultimately, Michigan can’t hit a thing downfield, they struggle to make plays in the running game, and they have to manufacture explosive plays. Good teams can create big plays with their base offense at least once in a while, but Michigan needs end arounds, jet sweeps, reverses, fancy double- or triple-screens, etc. They created a couple big plays in this game, but mostly in the second half when I’m sure Maryland’s whole team was getting frustrated that their offense couldn’t achieve anything. Michigan’s offense is really going to bog down against some of the defenses they’ll face in coming weeks

If you look at our formations today it was pretty obvious JH knew this game was never in danger...the amount of plays he used were so few. I still think JH is not showing his hand much. I expect some plays to come out next week against NW and more against MSU. Ironically I am more worried about playing NW then I am against MSU. NW is built to stop an offense like Michigan's - similar to what they did with Northwestern.

I think any team is built to stop the offense of UM :)

Both games are going to be difficult. It's a toss up. I haven't watched Northwestern but UM is not going to be throwing shut outs against better teams. The lb'ers (Bolden) aren't elite. DB's and line are very good.

UM is clearly going to be in most of these games because of good ST's and defense and coaching but unless UM can run the ball...there in trouble because Rudock is not going to win games with his arm.

Of course, you would say this RM. ur a hater. These are facts.

The team was flat, yes. But, as I said a couple weeks ago...they aren't showing anything yet on O. No reason to do that. It's "beat your man" right now and they are.

Your whiney ass act is getting old.

Use ur head.

Good grief, JH said Rudock is the best we have. I agree, he just can't hit the wide open men deep, missed another in first series today and cost us the game w Utah by over throwing at least two wide open deep receivers but, the kid is winning and I think I'll take the opinion of JH as to who is the best qb, giving Mi the best chance to win.

Funny thing is that Ruddock hit plenty of guys deep last year at Iowa. I'd expect him to improve.
Some of that is on the receivers too. Chesson and Darboh both should have connected on long balls against Utah, but neither did what they needed to do. Chesson inexplicably slowed down on his route (which led to an overthrow), and had Darboh known how close the one ball was, a jump or dive would have gotten both of his hands on that ball. Chesson also had a long throw hit him in the hands against Maryland. They'll get this worked out eventually.

People can say our offense is poor, but we've still managed to score 35, 28, 31, and 28 in the last 4 weeks. It may not look pretty at times, but at the end of the day, all 4 games have been very comfortable by the time the 4th quarter rolls around.

regarding NW. Their defense stopped UM's mirror -- Stanford -- in the first game of the season. So the question, in my mind, is was Stanford not ready (since they're rolled out some impressive wins) or is NW that tough against a ground team?

I also agree with some of the posters above thinking that 1) UM was flat vs. Maryland to save the emotions for the next two games; 2) JR is learning the offense still so his plays were/are limited. That will change when needed as you can tell vs. Utah (I was there and impressed with JR outside of the pick 6) in the 4th quarter.

The middle passing attack worked vs. utah and BYU and was held in abeyance vs. UNLV and Maryland. See a pattern?
