Were you old enough to go the "The Second Chance" in downtown Ann Arbor?
Who did you see there?

It was the greatest Rock and Roll Bar ever. It was truly a legendary place. There was a small dance floor. The stage on one side of the dance floor and facing on the other side were three soaring tiers of balcony's. Sitting on the rail on the second level were the best seats you could ever imagine to watch a band or a concert. It was so small and intimate, even in the balcony you were so close you could almost touch the band. It was crazy.

The walls were dotted with history. There were framed contracts of the groups who played there on the walls: Seger, Nugent, Patti Smith, Glenn Frye, Chuck Berry, The Ramones, The Band, David Crosby, Iggy Pop, George Thorogood, Frank Zappa, on and on. posters, memorabilia. When they closed the memorabilia on the walls alone was worth a small forture.

I saw a band tonight in Chicago who reminded me to Dr. Bop and the Headliners who were an annual staple at the Chance. I saw them every chance I had. I also saw Cheap Trick when they played a set there while they were playing the same weekend at COBO.

Some of the most fun nights of my life were spent there. I cried when it closed.

Who did you see the Second Chance?

In this clip of the Ramones playing there you can get a sense of how intimate it was.
