- We ran some decent motion early, had corners for guys to drive but for some reason seemed very hesitant to do so. Franz had multiple opportunities early that he passed on. Eli was the only aggressor early.
- Our screens were not good, our cutters were not coming off the screens tight enough. Made it too easy for UCLA to not have to switch all of the time.
- When they did switch, and it seemed like we had the advantage, we didn’t go at it. Franz got Riley multiple times, didn’t go at him. The guy is a fouling machine that Franz should be able to take off the dribble yet didnt.
- UCLA D seemed to have a soft spot in the middle of the lane. When guys flashed through, they were able to get good looks. Almost zone like in what UCLA was running. We didn’t go to it enough.
- We took at least 5 shots with near 30s on the clock, and they weren’t all good shots. We got impatient. Our offensive sets early were fine, we were getting decent looks but rushing the shot or not staying patient within the set. Then we abandoned it late in the half.
- Eli should have been the primary ballhandler. Campbell was giving smith fits. Might have been a better game to make smith more of a shooter than a creator. The offense was better with Eli.
- UCLA got calls multiple times based on our tendencies. HD with his offensive charge. Johns backing his guy down with the travel due to the ole move. They scouted our guys well and we stayed with our tendencies.

Even through all of this, we should have been winning that game. We allowed one guy to keep them in the game.

I can see why Juwan went heavy post in the 2nd half. Wonder if he saw looks in guys eyes at half that didn’t look like guys that were up for the game. The offensive plan in the first half would have worked if guys like Franz and Smith stayed within it, were more aggressive with their opportunities.

I think Juwans first half rotation wasn’t great. Should have gone to Davis earlier. While Brown on offense was needed, he singlehandedly allowed Juzang to heat up, unfortunately.

UCLA essentially made this game a one on one positional battle. Mano e Mano on both ends of the court, and they beat us at it. That’s not our game. We won with team basketball, and tonight we lost being forced to play their game.
