Finally decided to watch the '17 MSU game. I came out of that stadium last year thinking WTF just happened and then I see MSU do the same thing to PSU last week. Really no different than what happened at OSU in '15. Yet they beat all of them despite not having an offense for 3 quarters.
I'm no x's and o's guy but the QB improvement seemingly turns the tide for us (and has to). Shea's ability to extend plays should really open up the field for us against a pretty porous secondary. O'Korn did it last year but just had accuracy issues. McSorley seemed content to tuck and run rather than finding receivers.
MSU seems like it just comes out saying "our QB sucks but we're we'll make yours suck worse". Look at the QB ratings for those 4 games that they've had no business winning in the last 4 seasons:
2018 - Lewerke: 22.7, McSorley: 20.9
2017 - Lewerke: 28.1, O'Korn: 17.0
2015 - Cook: 42.1, Rudock: 38.4
2015 - O'Connor: 80.8, Barrett: 18.4
The nice thing about all of this is that all 4 of these shockers were on the road. Maybe Darth Tonio can't keep his players on edge as much when they wake up in their own bed and play a noon game.
