A couple things that stood out:
- Grant Perry had a few big plays. He and Butt were often check down guys that helped move the chains. We're going to need him with such a young wide receiving core. Butt also ran a bunch of rub routes underneath in crucial situations.
- Hurst, Winovich, and Gary played so much that it's odd not to consider them starters. There wasn't a team in the country last year deeper than we were at DLine. We were great at collapsing the pocket and getting to the QB. I wonder what the impact of not having as many quality fresh bodies in there will be.
- Ty Isaac really ran like a pussy sometimes for a guy with his size. De'Veon took a lot of crap for not having wiggle or vision, but the kid ran hard and rarely went down on first contact. Isaac needs to step up his game and run with a little more purpose. He looked comfortable in the spring game so my fingers are crossed.
- So many of the kids who are going to be starters this year played on special teams last year. I wonder how Harbaugh will handle that situation now that they have bigger roles. It's also odd to think special teams were so improved without Baxter. I remember being worried last year it could be a weakness. Boy was I wrong.
- There's no replacing Jabrill Peppers. I know Khalek has looked very good, but if you go back and watch the games again, it's easy to see Pep was a generational talent. I'm not saying Hudson won't be good, but it's going to be difficult to handle all that Peppers brought to the table. We were able to give so many different pre-snap looks defensively because of his ability to play the run, cover, and blitz.
- Darboh adjusted well to some ugly balls by Speight. Can the young kids do the same? Black seems to high point the ball well. I'm interested to see what kind of hands Collins and Martin have.
- I keep seeing people say that Crawford has solidified a starting spot. He was virtually nonexistent last year. And by all of the photos I've seen of the kid he hasn't put on much weight. I only mention that because blocking on the outside is a must for Harbaugh's receivers. Both Black and DPJ are bigger than Crawford despite not yet having a year in a college weight program.
- We played press man virtually the entire season. Can we do that again with young corners?
- We were in the top 25 in turnover margin last year. How will youth impact that? Can we cause as many with young players and not give away as many with young players?
- Michigan finished 110th in the country in kickoff returns. How did that happen with Pep and Jourdan Lewis back there? Did all of the teams we played have guys who could kick it out of the endzone?
- We were one of the least penalized teams in the country last year. Can we repeat that with so many young guys on the OLine and in the secondary?
