As awful as the fires have been, our home in Calabasas seems to be out of imminent danger. Unless there's a radical shift in the wind (and we've got our fingers crossed on that one), we should be okay. Last night, we decided to follow the citywide evacuation order and find a hotel. Turns out, there's some humor in the situation:
Five families from our neighborhood (The Oaks of Calabasas) all independently decided to relocate to various hotels in Westwood when Calabasas issued the evacuation order. We've been running into people we know from The Oaks all over Westwood and Beverly Hills (where we spent most of today). My wife went to work out at a nearby fitness center this morning and ran into a Hidden Hills (nearby neighborhood) evacuee on the next treadmill, J Lo.
We are the new refugee caravan.
